With half a kg each of pork filet and plain flour, I can easily make a meal for 6 people. That’s less than $2 per person. It also takes less than an hour. First, make the char siu (叉烧), when the char siu is cooking, make the noodles. Then cook the noodles, make a sauce, and combine!

Char Shao Mian


  • 1 portion of Black Char Siu
  • 1 portion of ramen noodles


  • 2 Tbsp Black Soya Sauce
  • 2 tsp Soya Sauce
  • 2 tsp black vinegar
  • 1 cube bullion
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 2 tsp sesame oil

Topping (all optional)

  • Scallions
  • Chopped chillies
  • Lau gan ma
  • Fried onions
  • Wontons


  • Make the noodles, then the char siu.
  • Mix all the ingredients for the sauce, and divide them into 6 bowls.
  • Divide the noodles into six portions and put them into the bowls with the sauce. Stir through.
  • Top the noodles with the chosen of toppings.
